What happens if the referendum is approved?

If the referendum is approved, we'll be able to maintain the academic and extra curricular programming that make BCSC great.

In addition to strong academics, we offer excellent opportunities for elementary students including Kidz Art, Bricks for Kids, Battle of the Books, Jr. Master Gardener & Robotics Clubs.

At Benton Central Senior High School, we are proud of our students academic accomplishments, as well as the competitive course offerings we offer.
  • On average we graduate 95% of our students - well above the state average
  • On average 40% of our Students Earn the Honors or Technical Honors Diploma
  • We offer 35 AP and Dual Credit courses
  • We have 19 Varsity Sports, 14 Junior High Sports and 34 active Clubs and Student Organizations
  • Our community/colleges gave away $1.2 million in scholarship money to the Class of 2019

What happens if the referendum fails?

If the referendum is not approved, we will have to make $2 million in budget reductions beginning in fall 2020. The results will include:
  • Class sizes of 27-30 Due to Teacher Reductions
  • Academic support for students needing extra help reduced due to reduction in classroom aides
  • Social/Emotional Support programs for students reduced or eliminated
  • Band, Music, Choir, Art reduced or eliminated
  • AP and Dual Credit Courses reduced or eliminated
  • Vocational Programs reduced or eliminated
  • Extra-Curricular Programming reduced or eliminated
  • Building Closures

How will the money be spent?

Revenue raised from the referendum will go toward maintaining small class sizes and our current programs.

Things we can protect with the funds provided by the referendum include:
  • Current Class Size
  • Academic Support for Students Needing Extra Help
  • STEM Curriculum
  • Band, Music, Choir, Art
  • AP and Dual Credit Courses
  • Extra-Curricular Programming
  • 4 Schools

Extra local revenue will provide:
  • Financial Stability
  • Flexibility to Adjust Education Programming to Benefit Students
Strong Schools = Strong Communities
“When it comes to resale value, though, even for buyers without children, investing in a home in a good-quality school district can pay off. Homes in good school districts tend to sell faster than homes in lower-quality school districts. And during tougher economic times that trigger declines in home values, homes in better school districts usually hold their value more than homes in lower-quality school districts.”(1)
